DIY 8-bitMommy Fabric softener

Okay, so I'm going to be adding a new list of things that I have begun doing recently. Which is creating recipe's to save money in the long run :) To start out with, here's a recipe on how to make your own fabric softener crystals. So simple it's scary ^____^!!
Ingredients are simply Epsom Salt, and essential oil of your choice.
I filled my container a little less then half full, and added 15 drops of peppermint oil. Shook it up really well so it wasn't clumped, and then added another 2 cups of Epsom Salt with a few more drops of oil. You can use whatever oil you enjoy. I choose peppermint because of it's strong scent. A little of it's oil goes a long way. Also I enjoy it's healing properties. Peppermint oil is excellent for mental fatigue and depression, refreshing the spirit and stimulating mental agility and improving concentration. It helps for apathy, shock, headache, migraine, nervous stress, vertigo and faintness and in general respiratory disorders. So why not make the house smell like a candy-cane every time we clean a load of laundry right?

Next lets break down the cost. A bottle of Purex Crystals are going to cost you $4.76 from Walmart. for a 28oz bottle that has roughly 32 loads of use. That comes out to .15 cents with every wash. Now for my recipe.

Epsom salt for a 6 pound bag cost me $4.97, I used 6 cups which comes out to about $1.24 and my peppermint essential oil cost me 7.99 at Whole foods. After some arduous math, thunked out between my husband and myself. We came to the conclusion that it cost us .22 cents for 30 drops of peppermint oil.
I made roughly 48oz of fabric softener with 1 tablespoon for each use. That gives us roughly 96.
 Epsom salt = $1.24
 Pepperment oil = .22 cents
$1.46/96= $.015 per wash :) and should last us for quite a while.
